(Red Rome) This is an improved color sport of Rome Beauty. The apple originated in Ohio in 1848. The fruit is medium to very large, round with thick, almost solid red skin, uniform size. The fruit is crisp, greenish white flesh of medium texture and firmness. This is an excellent baking apple as well as drying, eating fresh or for making cider. The fruit stores well, and today Henderson County produces more Rome’s that any other apple variety.
